CRTA’s Board of Directors has three main goals for the year, one of which is to increase membership by 15 percent. And, with your help, we can reach this goal!
In May, President Betty Soennichsen appointed a
Membership Campaign Steering Committee, and this
group has already met and outlined an exciting campaign. The highlight of the membership recruitment contest is the Grand Prize drawing for:
A 7-day Hawaiian cruise for two in an ocean view cabin, generously donated by Colpitts World Travel and Norwegian Cruise Line.
The trip may be taken between June 1,2008, and
May 31, 2009, depending on availability. You’ll earn
chances in the drawing by recruiting new members.

Contest Dates and Special Prizes
CRTA’s Membership Recruitment Contest begins September 1, 2007, and ends April 20, 2008. The winner will be drawn at
the Delegate Assembly which will be held May 28 – June 2, 2008; the winner need not be present to win.
In addition to one individual winning the grand prize, one division in each of the categories A – D (see categories below) will
win a hosted reception attended by CRTA State Officers. The winning divisions will be those in their categories which have
recruited the highest number of new members.
- CATEGORY A - 0 to 299 Members
- CATEGORY B - 300 to 599 Members
- CATEGORY C - 600 to 899 Members
- CATEGORY D - 900+ Members
There also will be a special prize of $1,000 for the CRTA member (State and Division Membership Chairs are not eligible for
this prize) who recruits the most total new members. This is not a drawing but a prize based on recruitment numbers. The
winners of the Division awards and the $1,000 cash prize will be announced at the Delegate Assembly to be held May 28
- June 2, 2008. Special thanks to EJS Insurance Services for donating the $1,000 prize.
Contest Rules
- Each valid entry must be on a separate official contest form.
- Valid entries must be postmarked between September 1, 2007, and April 20, 2008. There can be no exceptions. Hand-delivered entries will not be accepted.
- Each official contest form must be filled out completely, including the recruiter’s name.
- The official contest entry form printed in this issue of CRTA Contact may be duplicated. It may also be downloaded from www.calrta.org or it may be mailed to you upon request by the Business Office; please call (800) 523-2782.
- Credit will not be given retroactively; valid entries are those postmarked and processed between September 1, 2007, and April 20, 2008 - there are to be NO exceptions.
- Only NEW memberships (Or those who have been lapsed for at least 12 months), as verified by the State Business Office, will be counted.
- Dual memberships are not eligible for consideration for the purposes of this drawing/contest.
- Recruiters will receive one entry in the grand prize drawing for each Life or Annual member recruited and two entries for each Dues Deduction member recruited. Likewise, recruiters will receive one credit for each Life or Annual member recruited and two credits for each Dues Deduction member recruited for the purposes of the cash prize and the Division contest.
- Dues Deduction members must be verified by the State Business Office as eligible for Dues Deduction to be counted. Should a prospective member be ineligible for Deductions because they are not receiving a retirement allowance from the California State Teachers Retirement System, the State Business Office will notify him/her and request a cash payment. The recruiter will be notified if the prospective member either chooses to pay by check or declines to join.
